TRANSFORM YOUR KITCHEN

If you have a kitchen, you are ALWAYS cleaning it and tidying it up no matter whether you cook or get takeaway, don’t you agree? A well organised kitchen can mean less cleaning and more time enjoying time with family and friends.

No matter how much space you appear to have in your new home before you move in, it’s only a matter of time before you have filled all your drawers and cupboards so it is so important to have a plan and to utilise the many organising products available.

This will ensure you make use of space wisely and all your necessities are easily accessible. Even if you’re not starting fresh in a bright new Adenbrook home, Autumn is a great time to start decluttering and give your kitchen a fresh start.

Less is more! The first step would be to take stock of all your kitchen items, from the pots, saucepans and frying pans to the wooden spoons, tongs and cutlery. Go through your kitchen from the top drawer to the pantry and make sure you are using all the items you have.

ACCENT WALLS ARE ON TREND

A feature wall, or accent wall, first became popular in the early 2000’s. Gone are the days of the old suede effects but the creative accent wall is making a big comeback with many more interesting textures and designs. Going onto our third year of enduring this pandemic families are spending more time in their own homes which has motivated them to create unique spaces they can enjoy.

A simple way to do this is to pick a suitable wall in one of your living spaces and make it a feature. An accent wall gives a room character and can be a positive influence on mindset and mood. If you don’t have an accent wall yet we’ll show you some beautiful and interesting ways you can add colour and texture to your home and maybe even have a crack at creating something on your own.

Even if you think you don’t have a wall suitable to make a feature, stay tuned because you’d be surprised what sizes and positions of surfaces can make wonderful accent walls.

DULUX AUTUMN 2022 TREND PREDICTIONS

Rich, bold and moody hues of Dulux Discretion and Murray Red paired with natural tones to warm interiors. As the weather cools and we return to living and entertaining indoors, our interiors will play a crucial role in enriching the senses and providing comfort and connection in the home. The Flourish palette – one of three colour palettes from the 2022 Dulux Colour Forecast – harmoniously blends the warm, natural shades of Dulux Basic Coral and White Dune Quarter with the bold, rich tones of Dulux Murray Red and Discretion, to create a welcoming and comforting space where people can relax and retreat to over the cooler autumn months.

Autumn colour tips from Dulux’s Colour Expert: Andrea Lucena-Orr

Autumn palettes tend to consist of warm hues – both neutral and rich tones – and you can layer beautiful variations of these colours to add depth to your space.

• Consider the intent of the space: softer warm hues of pinks and earthy reds can create a light and cosy atmosphere whilst selecting the deeper hues of blues and greens can create a calm and moody space.

• Ensure you love the colour(s) before you make your final decision. As we know, colours can differ greatly due to lighting and surrounding colour, so make sure you sample your colours before you commit to a purchase.

• If you want to replicate the Flourish palette, I recommend testing a couple of key colours you initially gravitated towards and leave them up on your walls for 2-3 days to ensure the colour(s) work in your space and under different lighting conditions, both natural and artificial. You can also add some other colours from the palette for furnishings and décor items.

• For an autumnal bedroom look, bring more depth into the scheme by adding the gorgeous Dulux Murray Red to your bedroom walls with Clay Pipe Half and Discretion tones as inspiration for your bedlinen.

COOL NEW TECH IN DUCTED AIR CON

With temperatures starting to rise, it is probably the right time to start thinking about your cooling options available at Daikin. The risks of hot weather are getting higher all around the world and the Australian Medical Association has warned that ‘heat’ is a quiet but rapidly growing killer, as each year more lives are lost to it than the annual road toll. As global warming becomes an increasing problem, heatwaves are expected to get hotter and more intense. Not only must we look to changing our behaviour that causes global warming but we must also learn to adapt to the changing world and keep our homes cool in the summer for the comfort and well-being of our families.

Choose a Daikin ducted system for the most efficient and quality cooling. Recently Daikin launched AirHub Touch Zone Controller with its contemporary design, intuitive controls and innovative features it offers you flexibility with precise temperature control providing the ultimate comfort to each corner of your home.

RATTAN IS BACK!

Rattan, yes, it is unabatingly back in fashion and making a stylish comeback at that. Pronounced ‘Ruh-tan’, it is a material, unlike wicker, which is a style and method of weaving. At the forefront of current design is a fascination with texture and connection with natural and grounding features and as such, rattan has quickly become a hot item to style any outdoor and indoor spaces. Rattan is a sustainable and a naturally renewable palm that grows in the tropical regions of Africa, Asia and Australasia and can be used to produce a number of items from furniture to handicrafts, pot plant holders, table mats, wall hangings and more. It is an incredibly fast-growing plant. The palm’s outer layer is peeled off and used to create wicker products while the core is a highly flexible and durable material used to create furniture of unique shapes and comfort.

Don’t worry if you’re at a loss as to how to include beautiful rattan in your home décor, in our latest edition of Be Inspired we cover off on some simple ideas of how to make the most of this earthy feature. Rattan is incredibly versatile and can be found in furniture, mirror frames, bed heads, chairs and lampshades just to name a few.

MAKING THE MOST OF YOUR INTERIOR DESIGN CONSULTATION

When it comes to your home, the rooms that you spend the most time in deserve a little extra attention to detail and planning. This ensures that you are optimising the functionality of your space and more importantly, focusing on enjoying a seamless flow perfect for everyday living within your home.

Once you’ve decided on a floorplan that works for you and your loved ones, the next step is to decide on the ‘look’ of your new home. With so many options available, from flooring to paint colours and cabinetry finishes, this task is understandably overwhelming for some.

Rest assured, our specialist colour consultants are experts in their field and here to help you every step of the way. To help you prepare for your appointment, we have a few additional tips and tricks to make your experience an enjoyable one and leave you confident and excited about your choices.

Pinterest – the digital version of scrapbooking and mood boards. Even if you’re unsure of what your “style” is, once you start exploring what “pinning” is all about, you’ll start to see an emerging theme of what you like within your collection. Bringing your collection along with you to your appointment will assist your colour consultant with interpreting your desired outcome and allow them to offer tailored solutions within your budget while adding some personal touches to really make your brand new home your own. (Beware, Pinterest addiction is a real thing!)

I SAW IT ON THE GRAM

Another great resource for drawing inspiration from is Instagram (IG). You can ‘save’ images in your profile within albums to refer back to later and even add to your Pinterest. IG is great because not only are there loads of images to inspire you but product descriptions are readily available and even link to where to purchase items like furniture and styling pieces so that when you are finished your build, you can easily get started on decorating and projecting your personality into your home.

DON’T OVERTHINK IT!

It can be difficult not to get distracted by the huge array of selections available at your design consultation but sticking to your first instincts will help move things along. You will be surprised as how much can be achieved using the standard available range by mixing textures or tile patterns to optimise your desired look. Starting with a neutral palette will allow you to ‘layer’ and have the ability to change your decor over time as you get comfortable and settle in to your new home.

HOW WILL YOU USE THE SPACE?

It is beneficial to have a chat with your colour consultant about how you will be using certain spaces of your home. Maybe you would like to set up one of the spare rooms as a home office or a media room as a consulting area for your home business? Discussing these items early on will give you the opportunity to plan ahead and utilise those areas to their full potential so that you’re not left wishing you could go back in time. Perhaps you require extra cabinetry for those areas, a bigger window or some detailed panelling? No matter how small or insignificant you think your question may be, our team are happy to listen and ensure that your home works for you and your needs.

SPLURGE OR SAVE?

While you can achieve a stunning look just by using the builder’s range of options, some may feel they want to add a little extra luxe to their home. This could be in the form of tapware for example, maybe you love matte black or brushed brass instead of chrome? Or maybe you have been dreaming of a freestanding bath. These are items to also factor in to your budget and conversation during your appointment. Upgrading items such as benchtops to stone or including an outdoor kitchen will save you not only time and money in the long run, it will also save you the hassle of organising your own trades and quotes later down the track, leaving you to simply sit back and enjoy your beautiful new home.

IMMERSIVE MOOD, BY LAMINEX

Drawn from the earth these warm saturated hues not only reflect elements of nature, but the influence of the feminine on colour directions.

As the world becomes a place of uncertainty, we look to earthy colours to ground us. Our homes need to provide a place of safety & calm and work spaces are being designed to feel more like home and provide the same sense of security. In our homes we are ‘cocooning’ adding layers of tonal colour and leaning towards warm hues that add to the cosy mood. The enveloping saturated hues in the new Laminex Colour Collection are perfect to create immersive interiors in which we can find a sense of comfort through the warmth of rich colour.

“Warm colours can evoke a sense of security and nurturing.”

– Bree Leech, Trend forecaster and interior designer.

We are in a time where the feminine influence has been in focus, the colours that have emerged have been traditionally related to feminine energy and evoke a sense of nurture, comfort and certainty. With a move towards brown based pinks such as Laminex Porcelain Blush, these soft tones work beautifully alongside the more earthy hue groups.

Together the reassuring colour palette represents a move towards optimism while still creating a feeling of security, they are uplifting colours full of warmth and provide a look that reflects our current mood – that we all want to feel safe and secure.

“Layering warm hues creates an immersive interior perfect for cocooning.” – Bree Leech, Trend forecaster and interior designer.

DULUX COLOUR FORECAST 2022: COLOURS FOR A NEW ERA

Introducing three new tonal palettes inspired by our natural surroundings. They feature rich, earthy tones and natural textures, alongside joyful, summery hues that awaken a zest for life. Discover the trends set to influence colour and design for the coming year.

As we gradually emerge from another difficult year, we find that the world has changed, and our outlook has changed with it. With our ‘future normal’ still to be decided, the old rules and accepted norms no longer seem to apply. We find ourselves asking the questions: What do we really need to live well and what could we happily live without?

In response to this challenge, Dulux Colour Forecast 2022 palettes will reflect our desire to simplify our lives and boost our connection with nature and the people and experiences that matter most.

Dulux conducts year-round research into the latest international and local interior trends set to influence Australian design and the way Australians live. With international travel off the agenda for now, the Dulux Colour Forecast 2022 – led by Dulux Colour and Communication Manager, Andrea Lucena-Orr, in conjunction with Colour Forecaster and Stylist, Bree Leech and Davina Harper (Dulux NZ) – has been informed by virtual seminars such as Future Laboratory UK and Colour Hive, the Color Marketing Group workshops, forecast reports and engagements with local and international brands.

“Living through a pandemic has made us feel even more connected to our homes,” says Andrea Lucena-Orr, Dulux Colour and Communications Manager. “When it comes to future trends, comfort is key. We want our living spaces to calm and nurture us, so we can process everything we’ve experienced over the last year, and at the same time, help us rediscover our zest for life looking forward.”

After months of restrictions, there’s a desire to be bold, expressive and try new things. At the same time, the lingering sense of uncertainty around what the future holds makes us seek comfort and security from our homes. With prolonged days indoors, we have a new appreciation for good design and functionality and look to surround ourselves with things that are not only beautiful but also enhance our wellbeing and improve our quality of life.

“Having spent so much time isolated and on devices, we find ourselves craving authentic connection. In our homes, we desire textured, natural materials and finishes that ground us and provide those tactile experiences we’ve been missing. We are excited to spend time with friends, family and colleagues, and find ourselves viewing the simple and mundane parts of life – things we once took for granted – with a new sense of wonder and excitement,” says Lucena-Orr.

The Dulux Colour Forecast 2022 comprises three exciting palettes drawn from the landscape that feature warm tones, sensual, deep decadent hues and joyful, nature-inspired pastels.
