The Adenbrook Homes inaugural Footy Tipping competition got off to a tumultuous start with Covid-19 proving to be a force that could stop the NRL after just two rounds. Despite the lockdowns, the NRL led the sporting world, restarting the competition on May 28, sparking controversy and forcing players into what has become known as the Covid-bubble. Some players, including the Premiers who have become known as the Melbourne Sunshine Coast Storm spent over 5 months away from family to ensure that the show continued on.
The lure to tip against Scott Prince, saw over 200 participants sign up for the Adenbrook Homes tipping competition and subsequently ride the NRL wave throughout 2020 with the grand prize of $5,000 on the line. The season saw many ups and downs, with the Broncos facing off-field issues and eventually taking out the wooden spoon, while playing a season without a home game the New Zealand Warriors fought valiantly to take out 10th place and facing a 14 day quarantine on return to their home soil.
As we arrived at the finals, it was the ‘almost’ unstoppable Penrith Panthers… The Riff… The Pennies… The Mountain Men having won 17 games on the trot up against the minor premiers from 2019 the Melbourne Storm to see who would take out top spot and also would determine who would be our first every winner for the Adenbrook Homes tipping competition.
At the start of the game, the only thing that was certain was the Scott Prince wouldn’t be our 2020 champion, sitting on 102nd spot he was well and truly out of the running. At half time, the crowd favourites, the Panthers trailed by 22-0 looking like a flogging was on the cards but the boys fought in the second 40 to conclude the game in a nail biting final few minutes that saw the Melbourne Storm just take out victory with a 26-20 scoreline at fulltime.
The conclusion of the season wrapped up with our tipping competition winner @evilsteve, an avid Penrith fan finding consolation in taking out top spot and the $5,000 prize money with a lead of just ONE point. A close runner up was @brendanmeubilair taking out second place, with @houses66 who is currently building with Adenbrook Homes Port Macquarie wrapping up the winners circle in third place.
We are delighted to announce that the Adenbrook Homes footy tipping competition will run again in 2021, so get your pre-season research done early next year and sign up ready to compete for some great prizes. Thank you to everyone who participated this year and we look forward to having a bigger and better, Covid-free comp next year.
